Fabrizio Romano says Julian Alvarez wants more game time at Man City

Speaking in a recent video shared on his YouTube channel, Romano had this to say about the current situation surrounding Julian Alvarez and his future at City amid recent reports linking him with Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

He said: “He wants to play more. This is the reality. I can guarantee that Julian wants to find more game time at Manchester City.

“He feels really well in terms of the club, very good relationship with Guardiola, with all the people at the club, but he wants to play on a regular basis.

“He believes that this is a crucial moment for his career and so he wants to play more. Manchester City are aware of that because they spoke to the agent of the player. They had a conversation and the player side were really honest in telling them about this possibility.

“Let me clarify again, as I told you two days ago, that for Manchester City, a loan deal is not a topic. Manchester City have no intention to accept any loan deal for Julian Alvarez. At the moment, this is the situation of Manchester City.

“And also in case they would allow Julian Alvarez to leave the club in the summer has to be for big money. So, Manchester City have no intention to sell Julian Alvarez this summer.

“It will only happen if the player requests clearly to go and join another club and if they receive a big amount of money. These two conditions are crucial, otherwise, Manchester City are not keen on selling Julian.

“They believe he’s an important player, he has a big future, big potential, and so City will try their best to keep Julian Alvarez at the club.”

Alvarez is an important player for City

Since joining the Manchester club back in 2022, the Argentine has made 103 appearances across all competitions, scoring 36 goals and delivering 18 assists along the way.

Looking back over his most recent season with the Citizens, the 24-year-old featured in all but five of City’s matches across all competitions, starting 39 of the 54 games he appeared in.

Having appeared in more Premier League games (36) than any other City player this season, only three other outfield players in the squad racked up more top-flight minutes than Alvarez.

With that in mind, it’s clear that the striker, who City paid £14m to sign, is an important figure for the Blues and certainly gets the amount of playing time that we feel should be satisfactory for him.

However, if there is a danger of him wanting to leave the club this summer, we insist that City should do all they can to convince him to stay where he is if need be.
