‘Love to’: Alan Shearer says £54m Man City player is his dream teammate

Alan Shearer has said that he would’ve loved to play with one particular Manchester City player.

Throughout his playing career, Shearer scored 362 goals in 702 combined club appearances for Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers and Southampton.

Having scored more Premier League goals (260) than any other player in top-flight history, the Englishman certainly knows what it takes to find the back of the net and what he needs to be able to do so from his teammates.

Even though the former striker played with and against a variety of top-level players in his career, the Shearer has now pinpointed one current to-flight figure he says he’d loved to have shared the pitch with.

In a recent video shared on Goal’s official TikTok channel, Shearer was asked to build his ultimate Euros player by selecting certain current figures in the game based on their right foot, left foot, speed, strength, skills and football IQ.

When asked to pick a player with the best right foot, the former England striker had this to say in response.

He said: “Kevin De Bruyne – right foot – because I’d love to be on the end of some of his crosses.”

De Bruyne is one of the best creative players in Premier League history

Back in the 2015 summer transfer window, City paid £54m to sign the midfielder from Wolfsburg, who he joined from Chelsea in January 2014.

During his time at the Manchester club, the 32-year-old has scored 102 goals and delivered 170 assists in 382 appearances across all competitions.

With 112 Premier League assists to his name, only Ryan Giggs (162) has more in Premier League history, which makes it easy to see why a natural goalscorer like Shearer thinks so highly of De Bruyne and wishes he could have played with him during his career.
