The Tallahassee Super Regional was full of fireworks, but after just two games, the home team Florida State Seminoles took care of UConn 2-0 to advance to Omaha for the College World Series.
FSU kicked off their NCAA Tournament run by winning the Tallahassee Regional as the No. 8 overall seeding, meaning victory in the regional round guaranteed another weekend hosting the super regional. Upsetting Oklahoma, it was UConn who advanced out of Norman to meet the ‘Noles.

Game 1 was historic but one to forget for the Huskies. Florida State jumped out to an early lead and just never relented, scoring eight runs through three innings and 15 through six innings before adding another NINE runs in the seventh to round out at 24 — a record number of runs in the super regional round.
The next day, Connecticut brought much better fight and scored the first two runs of the afternoon. FSU scored the next five, two in the third and then three more in the top of the fifth. But UConn got back two in the bottom of that inning to make it just a 5-4 Florida State lead.
Both teams scored again in the sixth inning, FSU one run and UConn three to take the lead 7-6. Florida State came right back, though, adding another run in the top of the eighth to even up the score 7-7 before the ninth inning.
Florida State got two base runners aboard to start the ninth and were helped out by a UConn error on a bunt to load the bases with none out. A sac fly got one home before two more fly outs ended the inning with the Seminoles leading 8-7 as the Huskies came to the plate with their lives on the line.
Catcher Matt Malcolm came through right away, belting a lead-off home run over the right field wall to tie the game back up again. No more damage was done, but alas, the game continued into extras.
Neither team was able muster a run in the 10th or 11th innings, but it was James Tibbs III who came to the rescue once again for Florida State, hitting a two-run bomb in the top of the 12th, his third home run of the game, to give FSU back the lead, which they kept for good, finally shutting down UConn in the bottom of the 12th to win the game and advance to Omaha.
For the 24th time in school history, Florida State will advance to the College World Series, but they are still seeking their very first national championship.
