Kevin O’Sullivan wants Florida to ‘settle in’ to start rally vs. Clemson

Steven Branscombe-USA TODAY Sports

Florida found itself in some trouble early on in Game 1 of the NCAA Super Regional against Clemson and Kevin O’Sullivan just wanted his team to settle in.

Down 4-1 going into the fourth inning, the first third of the game wasn’t pretty for the Gators. O’Sullivan really wanted his hitters to attack Tigers’ pitcher Tristian Smith.

If they do, perhaps they can start the rally.

“I mean, we gave them the right information,” O’Sullivan said on the ESPN broadcast. “You know, you got to take his fastball away. He likes to use his fastball, especially the first time through the order and I think seven of the first eight hitters took at least one fastball for a called strike.

“So you know, the last inning we did a much better job and you know, if we could get the leadoff hitter, which we haven’t done yet, put a couple zeros on a board, you know, just give our offense a chance to get settled in here.”

Kevin O’Sullivan believes in Florida’s rallying ability

To get to the Super Regional, O’Sullivan’s crew beat Oklahoma State last Sunday.

It was a collective effort for the Gators once again, who used three different pitchers on the mound to help secure the win and generated offense from a multitude of players. Including Jac Caglianone, who spoke about the game about the significance of Florida’s big win after the game.

“I mean, it means everything. I mean, I feel like I shouldn’t be the one wearing this headset,” Caglianone said. ” Fisher Jameson, Jake Clemente, Frank (Menendez), all these guys held their ground. We were asking for them to just go out and do their job and that’s exactly what they did. I’m just really grateful for this group of guys. Like you said ups and downs throughout the year, but honestly, none of that matters now in the postseason.”

The Gators had to scratch and claw to even get to the postseason in the first place. Ending the regular season with two-straight wins over Georgia just to become eligible for the NCAA Tournament and looking like a different team ever since.
