Ian Wright snubbed one Man Utd legend as best finisher of all time, Roy Keane would have him as his top pick ever

Arsenal hero Ian Wright snubbed one Manchester United legend as the best finisher of all time, despite Roy Keane believing that he was the ‘best finisher ever.’

Roy Keane had a legendary playing career at Manchester United and is widely regarded as one of the best captains in Premier League history.

The 52-year-old Irishman was a commanding box-to-box midfielder in his prime for United and impressed as a leader when he inherited the captain’s armband.

Keane was instrumental in United’s success under Sir Alex Ferguson and the Irish hardman captained the Red Devils to an iconic treble win in 1999.

During his time under Sir Alex Ferguson, the United legend lifted seven Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and four FA Cups.

Keane also shared the pitch at Old Trafford with a star-studded roster of strikers, including Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney.

The former United captain’s illustrious spell at the Red Devils came to an end in 2005 after his relationship with former manager Ferguson fractured.

Wright snubs Keane’s former Man Utd teammate

Speaking to Goal, Ian Wright took part in a challenge where he had to remain silent until he heard the name of the best finisher of all time in football.

Wright was presented with several players to start off with, including former Manchester United players Henrik Larsson and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Arsenal hero also remained silent when United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is considered one of the best strikers of all time, was mentioned.

Wright then snubbed the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Robert Lewandowski and Manchester City striker Erling Haaland before he broke his silence.

The 60-year-old former England and Arsenal striker picked Brazil legend Ronaldo before he was told that Gunners legend Thierry Henry was coming up next.

Wright admitted that he still would have stuck with former Brazil and Barcelona striker Ronaldo over ex-Arsenal star Thierry Henry.

The Arsenal legend has worked closely with Roy Keane as a pundit during ITV’s FA Cup coverage last season and on The Overlap’s Stick to Football show.

Wright snubbing Ruud van Nistelrooy would be the complete opposite position that Roy Keane would have held on the United legend had he taken part in the challenge.

What did Keane say on Van Nistelrooy?

Ruud van Nistelrooy was a fan favourite during his illustrious spell at Old Trafford and was widely revered for his clinical finishing in the final third.

During his five seasons at United, the 47-year-old Dutchman scored an incredible 150 times in 219 appearances under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Van Nistelrooy shared the pitch alongside Keane and has spoken highly about the impact of the ex-United captain, including how he ‘killed’ him for one thing he wore.

Keane opened up about his admiration for the former United and Netherlands striker after he named Van Nistelrooy as the best finisher he had ever seen in football.

“Ruud was the best finisher, ever, but especially in one-on-one situations, just the keeper to beat,” he wrote in his autobiography ‘The Second Half.’

“When Ruud was going through, one on one, I never doubted him.

“Some players would be going, ‘F****n’ hell – hard and low? Or dink it over?,’ but when Ruud was through there might as well have been no goalkeeper.”
