Report: Enzo Maresca now wants £30m player at Chelsea, he's a long-term target for the club

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca reportedly wants his club to sign a player from another English team this summer.

Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new manager last week.

Since then, the Blues have brought in Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer to strengthen their defence.

However, it is unlikely that the former Fulham man will be Chelsea’s only signing in the transfer window, as they continue to be linked with a host of players.

Despite it being claimed that Maresca is happy with Robert Sanchez, it looks like the club could still bring in a new goalkeeper.

Who does Enzo Maresca want Chelsea to sign?

As well as Sanchez, Chelsea also have Djordje Petrovic, who finished last season as the team’s No.1.

The above means the Blues may not actually have to make signing a new shot-stopper a priority this summer.

According to The Sun, though, Maresca wants Burnley’s James Trafford at Chelsea.

The same outlet has also claimed that Trafford is the club’s long-term No.1 target and could cost £30m.

Trafford will be hoping for a move to a Premier League club following Burnley’s relegation back to the Championship.

Chelsea face transfer battle with Premier League rivals for James Trafford

Chelsea are not the only Premier League club who are said to be interested in Trafford.

The Sun has also claimed that Newcastle United want the 21-year-old, so Chelsea could face competition if they decide to go after him.

It is a potential transfer battle that you would expect the Blues to win, though.

Chelsea have already beaten Newcastle to Adarabioyo’s signature, while they can also offer Trafford European football, unlike the Magpies, who missed out on the Europa Conference League after Manchester United’s FA Cup triumph.

It remains to be seen where Trafford ends up this summer. But following Burnley’s relegation, you would expect him to depart Turf Moor, especially with big Premier League clubs like Chelsea and Newcastle being interested in the England U21 international.
