Chelsea are interested in signing defender who didn't lose a single league game this season - journalist

More defensive signings could be on their way to Chelsea this summer.

Chelsea are already close to landing one central defender to replace Thiago Silva.

Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo reportedly had his medical on Tuesday ahead of his move to Stamford Bridge.

Adarabioyo will be joining Chelsea on a free transfer, with his contract at Fulham expiring at the end of the month.

However, it looks like Enzo Maresca, who was recently named as Chelsea manager, could possibly see the arrival of another centre-back on top of the 26-year-old.

Which central defender could join Tosin Adarabioyo at Chelsea this summer?

Maresca should not be short of centre-half options once Adarabioyo joins Chelsea.

In fact, the Italian already has numbers in that area of the pitch. Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Levi Colwill, Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana can all play there.

Even so, Chelsea still seem to be looking at other centre-backs.

According to journalist Christian Falk, they are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah this summer.

Discussing Bayern Munich and Chelsea’s interest in Tah on Substack, Falk said: “Jonathan Tah is faced with the decision whether to extend his stay with Bayer Leverkusen or move to a new club this summer.

“Bayern Munich are specifically interested in the Germany international after his strong form for their rivals Leverkusen in their Bundesliga title-winning campaign, but there is also interest from Chelsea.”

Jonathan Tah could be another bargain signing for Chelsea

Like Adarabioyo, who is not going to cost Chelsea a single penny, Tah could also be a bargain for the Blues.

He has entered the final year of his contract so should not cost too much money if Leverkusen decide to sell him in the summer transfer window.

Tah was, of course, part of a Leverkusen side who won the Bundesliga this season without losing a single game.

Tah is 28 now and is a Germany international so has a lot of experience. And this term, he won two aerial duels per game, which was the highest average in Xabi Alonso’s squad, according to WhoScored.

If Chelsea want to sign another central defender this summer, then the former Hamburger SV man is not a bad player to consider.
