Fabrizio Romano says whether Champions League winner will be at Old Trafford next season

Fabrizio Romano has given his verdict as to whether Thomas Tuchel will be the manager of Manchester United.

Despite the season being long over, Manchester United’s managerial position is still a mystery for the future.

Will Erik ten Hag be in the role? Well, that’s anyone’s guess at the moment. After a poor 23/24 campaign, his job security is fragile, and there have been numerous managers already speculated to replace him.

One of these candidates includes former Bayern Munich manager, Tuchel. But does he even want the job?

Fabrizio Romano says whether Thomas Tuchel will manage Manchester United

Ever-reliable transfer guru Romano took to X on Sunday evening to confirm that Tuchel will in fact not become manager of Manchester United. Instead, the German wants to take a break from coaching.

Romano writes: ‘Thomas Tuchel NOT planning to take Man United job, he wants to take a break not coaching any club this summer. Tuchel currently decided not to continue in talks with United after meeting in the recent weeks. United, deciding on Erik ten Hag future soon.’

Very interesting. If Ten Hag was to depart, Tuchel would have been the ideal candidate for many. Now, this is ruled out.

Mauricio Pochettino is now the most likely if the Dutchman was shunned out of Old Trafford, but would that be the correct decision?

Sacking Erik ten Hag would still be a mistake

In our opinion, not at all. We still firmly remain Ten Hag in. The FA Cup Final 2024 may have saved his bacon after a poor campaign, but we still think he’s got a lot left to give at Manchester United.

His relationship with most players appears to be excellent, particularly with young talent – and he’s won two trophies in two years.

With Champions League-winning Tuchel out of the running, the number of ideal candidates is slowly dwindling down. The sensible option is to keep the current manager.
