Jack Wilshere says player Arsenal signed for £5m was faster than anyone he ever faced

Arsenal hero Jack Wilshere has named one former teammate as the fastest player he ever played with or against.

The Englishman spent 17 years as an Arsenal player. He joined the club from Luton’s academy and came through the ranks to become a fan favourite at the Emirates.

During his time at Arsenal, Wilshere played with and against some incredible players. He has now had his say on one of them.

Jack Wilshere delivers verdict on Theo Walcott’s speed at Arsenal

Theo Walcott is one of the fastest players in the history of the Premier League.

The Englishman joined Arsenal as a 16-year-old from Southampton for an initial fee of just £5 million (Sky Sports).

Walcott was among the biggest talents in England at the time, and he went on to play 397 games for Arsenal. He scored 108 goals, provided 73 assists and helped the club win three FA Cups and two Community Shields.

The winger remained rapid after he left Arsenal too. He came back to the Emirates with Southampton to hand the Gunners a huge blow in the 2022/23 title race.

Wilshere shared the Arsenal dressing room with some outstanding players, but if his latest comments are anything to go by, nobody was as quick as Walcott.

In a video on Goal, Wilshere was asked to name the fastest player he ever played against.

The Arsenal U18s manager said: “I played with him for most of my career, played against him at the end – Theo. He was so quick!”

Who is Arsenal’s current fastest player?

Arsenal have a few players in their squad who are absolutely rapid.

Walcott claimed recently that he would beat every current Gunners star in a race, including the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

He also claimed that he broke Thierry Henry’s record at Arsenal.

If we’re talking about his prime, it would be difficult to argue against Walcott, but we’re sure Arsenal’s current fastest player would give him a run for his money.

Squawka revealed during the 2023/24 season that Martinelli is Arsenal’s fastest player, having recorded a top speed of 36.33km/h.

Reiss Nelson held that title in the previous campaign, with a top speed of 36.07km/h.
