Report: Mikel Arteta has identified 21-goal striker as a Benjamin Sesko alternative for Arsenal

Mikel Arteta has identified a 21-goal striker as a Benjamin Sesko alternative for Arsenal, according to a recent report.

The North Londoners just missed out on the Premier League title last year as Manchester City won it for a fourth season in a row.

Arteta’s men lacked a prolific number nine and all the talk after the season has been around signing a striker.

Benjamin Sesko has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates and now it has emerged who the alternative target is.

Arsenal could move for Dominic Solanke

According to the Express, Arsenal have identified Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke as a Sesko alternative.

Chelsea and Newcastle United are in the race to sign Sesko, so the club are well aware that they could miss out on his signature, particularly after the Mykhalio Mudryk saga.

Therefore, the club are carrying out their due diligence on other options and have decided upon Solanke as their number two target.

The Bournemouth frontman netted 21 times last term and has a £65m release clause for clubs in the top six.

Dominic Solanke statistics

Interestingly, FBref data suggests Solanke is of a very similar profile to Sesko, in fact, he’s the number one comparison.

Clearly, Arsenal agree with that notion and feel the 26-year-old could fit seamlessly into their system, just as Sesko would.

Solanke averaged a 7.05 match rating last term, as per FotMob, and he managed to perform near enough to his xG, converting 19 goals from a 19.63 xG in the Premier League.
