Texas A&M pulls away from Oregon with massive seventh inning to reach College World Series

Texas A&M is back in the College World Series after taking down Oregon on Sunday to win the Super Regional. The Aggies took advantage of a defensive collapse from the Ducks down the stretch to pull away for an 15-9 victory and punch their ticket to Omaha.

A&M trailed 8-4 entering the seventh inning but would go on to score nine runs, including a grand slam from Kaeden Kent. It never looked back from that moment on, hanging on for the win.

The College World Series appearance is the eighth in program history for the Aggies as well as their second in the past three seasons. Despite this, they have never won the championship.

Oregon got off to a blazing start with three first-inning home runs that led to four runs scored. The Ducks opened the game with five straight hits, scoring first on a two-RBI shot from Chase Meggers. They continued to build their lead, holding a 7-2 advantage at the end of the third.

Texas A&M would score a pair of runs in the top of the fourth to inch closer before Oregon added another in the sixth to make it an 8-4 lead. However, it would be a defensive meltdown for the Ducks in the seventh that allowed the Aggies to take their first lead since it was 1-0 the opening inning.

After loading the bases, Oregon went on to walk five straight batters to allow A&M to jump in front 9-8. It wouldn’t end there, however, as Kent stepped up after the fifth batter was walked and blasted a grand slam to pile on to the lead.

The Ducks continued to struggle after that, walking yet another batter before pulling pitcher Jaxon Jordan. It was the second pitching change of the inning after Brock Moore walked the first four batters. All in all, the Aggies scored nine runs in the inning and it proved the difference in the game.

Things didn’t get much better from there as A&M would add to its lead in the eighth inning when Hayden Schott delivered a two-run homer.
