Georginio Wijnaldum reveals what Arne Slot was really like in Feyenoord training before Liverpool move

Liverpool supporters are somewhat in the dark over exactly how Arne Slot will orchestrate his players next season.

The Dutchman officially started his new role at Anfield at the beginning of June, with the boss currently settling in on Merseyside with his family.

He will certainly need all the relaxation he can get at this moment in time before the hard work begins in pre-season.

The schedule will, however, need to be altered for certain players, with many Reds stars set to play at Euro 2024.

And it won’t be until the first few pre-season matches that the Anfield faithful will see just how Slot plans to approach life on the pitch with Liverpool.

Georginio Wijnaldum shares Arne Slot insight after Liverpool move

Fortunately, the red half of Merseyside have now been given an insight into Slot’s thinking from their former player Georginio Wijnaldum.

The midfielder, who currently plays for Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, recently worked with the new Liverpool manager on the training pitch during his time in the Feyenoord dugout.

“In Arne Slot, I think Liverpool has really acquired a great successor,” Wijnaldum told AD. “The fact that they don’t all know Slot inside out in England is not a problem at all.

“At the beginning of this season I trained for a few days at Feyenoord and there I saw how Slot worked. That was of a very high level, I thought it was really great.

“I can compare it with Klopp and Mourinho and then I say that Slot is at the same level. Yes, he now comes into a completely different world, that’s just true. But that doesn’t mean he can’t do there what he did at Feyenoord.”

Liverpool will give Arne Slot time to settle at Anfield

Wijnaldum was an Anfield hero for several years, with the Dutchman clinching several honours during his time in red.

But he left for PSG in 2021 in somewhat acrimonious circumstances, with a loan to Roma and a permanent transfer to Al-Ettifaq following not long after.

Notably, he isn’t the first former Liverpool player to provide a glowing recommendation of Slot, with former Anfield goalkeeper Sander Westerveld also singing his praises and providing an insight into his training methods.

Such recommendations are really all Reds fans can go on at this moment in time, along with Slot’s time at the likes of Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar, but the picture will become very clear very soon.

He will undoubtedly be given time to impress in the dugout by the supporters and more importantly the Anfield chiefs, but a quick start on the pitch next season should definitely be the target.
