Report: UEL Club have liked current £50k-a-week Man City player since 2021, they want a permanent deal

There could be several outgoings at Manchester City this summer, and it looks as though Sergio Gomez could be among them.

Gomez is a player City fans haven’t seen a great deal of in the two years since he first signed for the club for around £11 million.

To date, he has clocked up just 38 appearances for the club and most of those have been as a substitute.

Gomez currently finds himself potentially fourth in the pecking order for his position of left-back. Josko Gvardiol finished the season as the clear number one choice for Pep Guardiola, Nathan Ake also slots in there at times, and even Manuel Akanji moves across before Gomez is considered.

Undoubtedly, there is a reasonable chance that Gomez will be departing this summer, and now there are reports of interest from Real Sociedad.

And a new report has shed some light on why they want to sign him…

Gomez has struggled to force his way into the City team and at this point, it would be fairly surprising if he remained at the Etihad for another season.

Pep has been using centre-backs over on that left side for some time now, and Gomez doesn’t appear to have impressed the Spaniard all that much. He can play as a winger too, but there are strong options to play in those positions.

As such, speculation has now started that Gomez will leave.

Real Sociedad are keen and AS published a report on the situation on Sunday night.

Apparently, they have actually admired Gomes for quite some time, and the club has followed him for several seasons. He was liked as far back as when he first signed for Anderlecht in 2021, after a couple of seasons on loan with Huesca.

It is stated that Real – who’ll play in next season’s Europa League – like Gomez ‘for his level, for his age, and for his versatility, because he plays as a left-back, but he has also been able to perform in midfield’. The player has had ‘good reports’ at the San Sebastian club.

Best for all parties if Gomez leaves

It is hard to see Gomez staying put at City for another season and hopefully he manages to secure a move away. It’s what he needs.

There have been few signs that Gomez can become a mainstay in the City team. Sometimes he has looked decent coming off the bench. But it is rare that he has started in big games.

City should seek to get back what they paid Anderlecht, which was around £11 million. That said, the club should be happy to take a small hit on him given his lack of minutes.
