'At first he didn't get us': Kyle Walker jokes he and Carson put £55m Man City star 'in his place' sometimes

Kyle Walker has joked that he and Scott Carson needed to put one of their Manchester City teammates in his place in his early days at the club.

The full-back has been speaking on his new podcast ‘You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker’, where he speaks about his footballing life.

It is common knowledge that Manchester City have a very good dressing room.

Part of the reason that City are so successful on the pitch is because the dynamics have been carefully constructed off it, and there is a very good vibe behind the scenes.

The players are all very close, and Kyle Walker has now joked that he and Scott Carson moved to put one of their teammates in his place shortly after he first joined…

Walker is known for being one of the jokers of the pack at City.

The 34-year-old is a big character and is also obviously the club captain.

Walker spoke on his podcast a little bit about what it is like in the dressing room at City – and he admits it can be a little ruthless at times, as he told an amusing story about the club’s £55 million signing Jeremy Doku.

He said (via BBC Sounds): ‘Everyone’s fit in really well. I’ll give you a really good example – Jeremy Doku. Belgian, played at Anderlecht, went to France, done really well there. He’s come in and at first he didn’t get us (him and Carson).

“But it’s took him two weeks and now he’s chucking the banter on us! But then we say ‘hang on, you’re 22 years old what have you won?’ and then we try and calm him down. When he gives us a little bit, we try to put him back in his place as quickly as possible!”

Walker then admitted that the banter at City can sometimes be ‘harsh’. But the star passes this off as ‘truthful’, and believes it is about pushing limits.

He says that the players never cross the line, and it is all in good spirits.

Good chemistry is essential

It is interesting to hear Walker talking about the dynamics behind the scenes at City and the story about Doku is amusing.

It is good to hear that it didn’t take Doku very long to start showing his personality at the club, and that can be put down to how good the environment it is that the other players have helped to create.

A club can bring in the most talented player. But if the environment isn’t right then he is likely to fail.

This is why City rarely miss when it comes to new signings.

It is not just about finding to quality players and prospects – it is about signing the right characters. City have a plethora of players with great personalities and characters, and it is undoubtedly a big reason behind why the team is so successful.
