Arsenal star 'too expensive' for Premier League rivals amid talks for 'cheaper' alternative

A Premier League club reportedly view one Arsenal star as ‘too expensive’ with talks now ongoing with an alternative target.

The Gunners are set to allow a number of big-name players to leave this summer in what could be a major squad overhaul for Arsenal, with Emile Smith Rowe last week strongly linked with a move to London-based rivals Fulham.

With Oleksandr Zinchenko also rumoured with an exit from Arsenal, the north London side find themselves in a good position to make some serious bank this summer if they can negotiate the right deals for players deemed surplus to requirements.

Yet one name is already proving tricky to sell this summer.

Aaron Ramsdale viewed as too pricey as Newcastle change transfer strategy

According to Fabrizio Romano, Aaron Ramsdale has been deemed too expensive by Newcastle United as the Magpies have now shifted their attention to Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, who now looks set to join the Toon.

With reports suggesting that Arsenal want as much as £50m in total to sell Ramsdale this summer, it’s no real surprise why Newcastle have now turned away from signing the England international, who having hardly played last season simply will not leave for a fee that high.

Romano wrote: Newcastle are in talks to sign James Trafford from Burnley, so let’s see if they will be able to agree a deal. Talks are ongoing, while other goalkeepers such as Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale are also appreciated by Newcastle but considered too expensive because of the FFP situation at the club.

Trafford could be an easier deal, could be cheaper, and Newcastle consider him a very good solution. Talks are taking place, Trafford would be keen on the move, so it’s an important one to watch for Newcastle in this transfer window.

Arsenal are going to struggle to sell Ramsdale this summer

Ramsdale is clearly a top goalkeeper who has shown he is one of the best in the Premier League, yet even with all that credit in the bank, Arsenal could again struggle to sell a good player for good money.

News that the Gunners want as much as £50m for Ramsdale is nothing short of obscene, even if the England international could realistically be worth that much if he was to move on this summer.

And if the Gunners are to successfully offload the 26-year-old, they will have to lower their demands for Ramsdale, who is clearly good enough to play for a top side next season.
