Southwell speedwatch group seeking more volunteers for patrols, after 365 warning letters sent to speeding drivers

A speedwatch group is seeking more volunteers to help crack down on speeding motorists.

Southwell’s speedwatch group has on recent occasions recorded 20% of drivers exceeding 30mph as they enter the town.

The group records the speeds and details, which are passed onto Nottinghamshire Police for warning letters to be delivered to those who are driving at speeds above 35mph.

If the limit is breached multiple times by the same motorist, they may also be visited by an officer.

PCSO Richard Dunn delivers speedwatch training for the area, and also sends out warning letters.

In the past 18 months alone he has sent 365 letters.

Now, more volunteers are needed so the group can be out and about around the town more often, helping to slow down speeding drivers.

Anyone who is able to volunteer some time to join patrols and wishes to get involved can contact PCSO Dunn on 07595 074292 to arrange training.
