Northcroft Leisure Centre, in Newbury, hosts free health and wellness event for older people

A Newbury leisure centre is hosting a free health and wellness event for older people tomorrow (Tuesday), writes Grace Clift.

Taking place from 11am until 1pm, the event at Northcroft Leisure Centre will offer a fun and educational day of free activities, all designed to support the senior community in staying healthy, active and social.

The centre – which is run by Everyone Active in partnership with West Berkshire Council – will host a variety of recreational activities, including light exercise sessions and team games.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the host of workshops throughout the day, focusing on important topics such as health and wellness, technology use and hobbies.

Callum Yates, contract activity and wellbeing manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting our senior activity day and welcoming people to join us for a day of fun, learning and community spirit.

“This free event is all about supporting older people in caring for their health and overall wellbeing, by encouraging them to stay active and sociable, as well as engaging in regular health checks.

“It’s set to be a fantastic day and we look forward to seeing the local community join us.”

April Peberdy, acting service director communities and wellbeing at West Berkshire Council, added: “Staying active is important for all residents and we want to give everyone the opportunity to keep moving.

“This is a great initiative run by Everyone Active and we cannot wait to welcome senior residents to Northcroft Leisure Centre for free workshops.”

There will also be free health screenings and wellness consultations available, as well as information booths from healthcare providers, social clubs and other local organisations that cater to the needs of older people.

Those who attend will be able to swim in the lido for free between 11am and 1pm.

Light refreshments will also be available and visitors are being encouraged to use the event as an opportunity to connect with others in the community.
