Three Counties members take on Green Wheel Relay in Peterborough

Three Counties Running Club Members took part in the Green Wheel Relay (GWR).

The event is a seven-stage race, starting and finishing at The Athletics Arena, Bishops Road, Peterborough.

The total distance is 50 miles and follows the outline of the Green Wheel.

The Green Wheel cycle route provides over 45 miles of continuous sustainable routes around the City of Peterborough.

Opening in 2000, it was one of the first large-scale projects delivered by Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT).

Although aimed at Cyclists the route is equally good for running.

Each team has seven runners, one for each leg of the relay and every leg is a different distance.

In total, 45 teams participated on a warm and sunny day.

Mixed A: Arthur Sargeant, Sarah Lamb, Lauren Day, Claire Smithee, Vicki Newton, Kersten Muller and Donna Johnson finished in a combined time of 7:07:48.

Third Wheelers: Simon Killen, Rachael Cooper, Sarah Melton-Whitelam, Jonathan Quail, Phillip Cooper, Matt Hunter and Laura Vincent finished in a combined time of 7:24:21,

Ladies: Sarah Johnson, Shelley Coleman, Sam Pritchard, Debbie Agger, Lorraine Parker, Naomi Smith and Tracy Adams finishing in a combined time of 7:40:06.

Craig Freestone completed the entire relay on his own in a total time of 8:32:44.

Hunstanton: Naomi Smith 28:02 (first in age).
