A player who Oliver Glasner “strongly” wants at Selhurst Park has now started a medical with Crystal Palace.
Dougie Freedman is edging closer to sealing his second signing of the summer after Morocco international Chadi Riad passed a medical of his own at Crystal Palace.
Now, another player is close to joining him in SE25 with a medical already underway…
Daichi Kamada begins Crystal Palace medical
The reliable Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on Daichi Kamada – who verbally agreed to join the Eagles last week.
It is said that the Japan international has already passed the first part of his medical examinations at Crystal Palace, and a two-year contract will be signed once the entire assessment is over.
Romano wrote on X: “Daichi Kamada already completed first part of medical tests as new Crystal Palace player. Two-year contract, set to be signed as Kamada will join Palace as free agent, strongly wanted by Oliver Glasner. Here we go, to be confirmed soon.”
It comes as no surprise to hear that the Austrian “strongly” wants the Japanese maestro in south London.
Kamada previously worked under Glasner at Eintracht Frankfurt, playing a key role with 25 goals in 93 appearances as the German outfit won the UEFA Europa League in 2022.
A first at Selhurst Park?
If the records are accurate – and our memory too – Kamada is about to become the first Japanese player in Crystal Palace’s history.
Previously, there was Shintaro Harada who played for Crystal Palace Baltimore from 2007 to 2009 – a side based in the United States who were affiliated with Crystal Palace.
There was also Tsuyoshi Yoshitake who played for Crystal Palace Baltimore in 2010.
However – as far as we know – there has never been a Japanese footballer to play for the Crystal Palace, so Freedman could be about to make history by bringing Kamada to Selhurst Park.
