'Incredibly difficult': Aaron Ramsdale says who the better penalty taker is between Jorginho and Ivan Toney

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has said who the better penalty taker is between Jorginho and Ivan Toney.

Ramsdale remains one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League despite losing his place to David Raya.

The England international has been linked with a move to Newcastle United in recent months, though, that deal seems to be a long way off from happening at the moment.

Anyhow, he’ll be eager to move on from Arsenal this summer and ahead of the Euros, he’s been speaking to That’s Football about penalties.

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale hints that Ivan Toney’s penalties are tougher to save

Ramsdale was asked the tough question of who the better penalty taker is between his Arsenal teammate Jorginho and his compatriot Toney. He appeared to hint that it was the latter.

“I have never faced Ivan,” the 26-year-old said.

“I have never had a pen against him. It looks incredibly difficult. He is just looking at you basically until he kicks the ball.

“The ball doesn’t move but at least when people do the stutter run up, like when Jorginho does the jump, it’s really tough in training, but at least when he’s in the air, if his hips are facing one way a lot it’s hard for him to turn.

“Whereas Ivan is dead straight and can go either way.”

Ivan Toney’s penalties will be crucial at Euro 2024

Many fans urged Gareth Southgate to call up Toney for Euro 2024 purely because of his brilliant penalty technique.

It could come in crucial if a shootout arises, which notoriously England tend to struggle in – as evinced in the 2020 edition when they lost to Italy in the final.

As Ramsdale alluded to, his technique is a lot more difficult to anticipate as a goalkeeper, so perhaps Southgate should consider making him second in line to take one, behind Harry Kane.

A telling summer awaits the Three Lions.
