Czech unemployment inched down to 3.6% in May and 274,322 job applicants were registered with the Czech labour office at the end of the month.
The figure is up by 0.1 percentage point year on year and down by 0.1 pp compared to April, when a drop of 0.2 pp month on month was registered. Unemployment dropped in all 14 regions and in 70 out of 77 districts in the country.
The Labour Office highlighted that Czechia is back on top of the EU with the lowest unemployment rate, adding that “May together with June is traditionally the month with the lowest unemployment rate.”
The Labour Office also reported that it facilitated the employment of 24,056 persons, which is an increase of 60.9% y/y, and requalified 83% more persons y/y. “This year 17,019 persons were requalified and at the end of May it was 4,689,” commented the head of the Labour Office Daniel Kristof.
There were also 15,878 Ukrainians under the temporary protection scheme registered with the Labour Office at the end of May, down from 16,204 in April, and 797 sheltered Ukrainians took Czech language courses facilitated by the Labour Office (in April it was 849, in March 926, in February it was 903 and 544 in January).
