San Antonio Claudia Taylor Johnson four-star quarterback Ty Hawkins has been committed to TCU since last June, but other programs have yet to give up on his recruitment. One such program is in-state program and TCU rival, SMU.
Hawkins told On3’s Chad Simmons that he will take an official visit to Southern Methodist beginning this evening. The visit will stretch through Wednesday.
He told On3 this week that it would be “pretty hard” to get him to change his mind about his commitment to TCU, but Hawkins will still hear the other schools out.
SMU’s quarterback situation changed drastically earlier this month when top-100 quarterback Keelon Russell flipped his commitment to Alabama. Now with that position in the Mustangs’ class is wide open, and the staff in Dallas is pursuing Hawkins.
“Coach Jonathan Brewer, the quarterbacks coach, left and then, they got coach D’Eriq King,” Hawkins said. “They’ve stayed in contact with me during this whole process. They want to get me back on campus.”

Hawkins has had an impressive start to the summer already. He participated in the OT7 Championship 7-on-7 camp this past weekend. He also received an Elite 11 Finals invitation for this month in Los Angeles.
There are few higher honors for high school quarterbacks than being invited to the Elite 11 Finals. The event, which will celebrate its 25th year in 2024, brings together the country’s elite signal-callers for three days of competition and training in Los Angeles.
Elite 11 alumni include Carson Palmer, Andrew Luck, Matthew Stafford, Tim Tebow, and more recently Trevor Lawrence, C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young and more. Last year’s Elite 11 Finals featured more than a dozen of the top 20 quarterbacks in the final On3 Industry Rankings, including each of the top five players at the position.
Hawkins is the nation’s No. 149 overall prospect, No. 12 quarterback and No. 27 recruit from Texas in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
On3 is higher on Hawkins than the other major recruiting services. He ranks No. 87 nationally and is the No. 8 QB in the 2025 On300.
