OU softball trio (Avery Hodge, Quincee Lilio, SJ Geurin) hits the transfer portal

One thing about OU softball having such deep postseason runs means not a lot of time to think about the transfer portal.

The softball window closes next Monday. And three Sooners have been reported to hit the portal Monday – Avery Hodge, Quincee Lilio and SJ Geurin.

Hodge and Lilio, for what it’s worth, were not at the OU championship celebration Saturday evening at Love’s Field.

The biggest surprise is clearly Hodge. She became a name to watch because of how well she played during the Women’s College World Series. The natural assumption was it would help her in her quest to be in the 2025 OU starting lineup.

But if you think about it, her portal stock will probably never be higher. Hodge was fantastic after Alynah Torres suffered an eye injury during the second game of the WCWS.

With her glove, her feistiness at the plate, it was a mini-coming out party for Hodge.

Hodge hit 4-for-9 (.444 avg.) with four runs scored in the final four games of the season. She raised her batting average by 18 points (.266 to .284) during that span.

The sophomore scored 21 runs and drove in nine.

Lilio started two games as a redshirt sophomore. Her chances dwindled as the season progressed. She did not have a plate appearance during the Super Regional or the Women’s College World Series.

She hit .129 this season with eight runs scored and five RBIs.

Geurin was a consensus top-25 national high school recruit. Her last appearance, though, came April 12 against BYU.

She threw 10 innings this season, with a 0.70 ERA and a 2-0 record.

The trio departing means head coach Patty Gasso has five open spots to play with. Eight returners, eight freshmen and now five portal spots to make something happen.

The Sooners, of course, just finished making history (again) by winning their fourth consecutive national championship last Thursday. It’s Gasso’s eighth since 2000.
