MIAMI, Fla. – Jean Wesner Pierre Louis, a 52-year-old Miami resident and former president of a tax preparation business, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for his role in a tax fraud scheme.

The sentence, handed down on June 7, 2024, by U.S. District Judge Paul C. Huck, also includes one year of supervised release and an order to pay over $4 million in restitution.

Pierre Louis pled guilty in February 2024 to charges of aiding and assisting in the preparation and presentation of false tax returns. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida, Pierre Louis' business, operating in Miami-Dade County, prepared numerous fraudulent returns for clients, resulting in significant losses to the IRS.

The investigation, conducted by IRS Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI), Miami Field Office, revealed that Pierre Louis and his associates systematically inflated deductions, fabricated business expenses, and claimed false credits to maximize refunds for their clients. These fraudulent practices allowed clients to receive inflated refunds to which they were not entitled, costing the government millions of dollars in lost revenue.

U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida emphasized the severity of tax fraud, stating, "Those who engage in tax fraud schemes undermine the integrity of our tax system and harm honest taxpayers. This sentence sends a clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated."

Special Agent in Charge Matthew D. Line of IRS-CI, Miami Field Office, echoed these sentiments, adding, "IRS-CI is committed to investigating and prosecuting those who engage in tax fraud. We will continue to work tirelessly to protect the integrity of the tax system and ensure that everyone pays their fair share."
