Fabrizio Romano says Man Utd midfield target will '100 per cent' leave the club

Manchester United are expected to make major changes this summer in the market, once the manager situation is sorted.

While the world is waiting on Manchester United to make a decision over Erik ten Hag, other decisions are being made elsewhere.

One concerns the future of reported transfer target Youssouf Fofana, who is set to head to Euro 2024 as part of the France squad.

He is currently under contract to Monaco. But this summer, club and player are braced for him to move on.

Youssouf Fofana to leave Monaco

Youssouf Fofana is heading towards the Monaco exit, with a decision made, reports Fabrizio Romano.

Romano writes on X: “Youssouf Fofana will 100% leave AS Monaco this summer, plan on both player and club side confirmed.

“No advanced negotiations yet but Fofana feels ready for new chapter this summer.”

Manchester United made an approach to sign Fofana late in the transfer window last summer, as an alternative to Sofyan Amrabat.

At the time Manchester United were looking at a loan deal. This summer, at this stage, the expectation from all parties is that a permanent deal will be required for Fofana.

Youssouf Fofana contract expiring

Youssouf Fofana started 31 Ligue 1 games for Monaco last season, scoring four goals and providing four assists.

He is under contract until June 2025, which is why Monaco are ready to cash in on him this summer.

Fofana’s contract situation also limits the amount Monaco can sell him for his summer, making the 25-year-old one of the better value targets on the market this summer.
