Diogo Jota says £35m Liverpool midfielder is actually the best player in the Premier League right now

Diogo Jota has surprisingly named one of his teammates at Liverpool as the best player in the Premier League right now.

The Reds have a phenomenal squad of players. There are many who are absolutely top-class, and Jota is definitely one of them.

Now, the Portuguese midfielder has revealed who he thinks is the best player in the entire Premier League, and his answer may surprise you.

Liverpool’s Diogo Jota makes surprise Alexis Mac Allister claim

Liverpool have a number of incredible players in their squad, but two of them stand out.

If you’re having a conversation about the best players in the Premier League, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are the two from Liverpool who will spring to your mind.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is perhaps the other one who can get into the conversation because of his brilliance on the ball.

However, Jota has gone in a completely different direction.

The Portuguese forward has rubbed shoulders with some great players over the years. He has seen all of Liverpool stars closely since he joined the club and he has even played with the great Cristiano Ronaldo in the national team.

Jota has also shared the dressing room with Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias, who are also among the best players in the English top flight.

However, when Jota was asked by Goal to name the best player in the Premier League right now, he had one very interesting answer.

Mac Allister,” he said.

How Mac Allister could become even better for Liverpool

Liverpool signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton in 2023 for just £35 million (BBC).

The Argentine was viewed by everyone at the time as a very good signing, and he did not disappoint in his debut season at Liverpool.

However, Mac Allister played more games as a defensive midfielder in the 2023/24 season than he did in his natural number-eight role.

Once Arne Slot arrives, we expect the Dutchman to deploy Mac Allister in a much more advanced role, and we think that will bring the best out of him.

For that to happen, however, Liverpool may need to sign a top-quality defensive midfielder this summer.
