Report: Potential price tag emerges as Sheffield Wednesday chase transfer deal for Euro defender

Sheffield Wednesday are in the race to sign Angers right-back Yan Valery this summer.

Danny Rohl could reunite with a former Southampton comrade in Yan Valery at Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

The German coach worked with Valery, 25, during their time at St Mary’s where Rohl was an assistant coach to former Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Since, Valery has left Southampton, joining Angers in France where he helped guide the club to promotion from Ligue 2 last season.

Recent reports revealed that Sheffield Wednesday had agreed a deal to sign right-back Valery from Angers this summer.

Subsequent reports then revealed that Ligue 1 side Montpellier and Belgian top flight side Standard Liege were also in the race to sign Valery.

A Sheffield Wednesday deal for Valery appears to be far from done, especially so with fresh interest from two top flight clubs in Europe.

Yan Valery to Sheffield Wednesday latest

The latest on a Valery’s future comes from africafoot; they reiterate that Tunisian international Valery has interest from Sheffield Wednesday, Montpellier, and Liege.

But their report has revealed that Montpellier have now began contact with Valery and his representatives.

The same report also reveals that Liege have put forward a loan-to-buy deal for Valery, with a price tag of €500,000 (£423,000).

Africafoot conclude that Liege’s deal remains in the pipelines and that it remains to be seen whether or not Angers accept, but that Angers are indeed open to the departure of Valery this summer, if the deal is financially right for them.

How much will Yan Valery cost Sheffield Wednesday

Valery is under contract at Angers until 2026 and so he’d cost Sheffield Wednesday a transfer fee this summer.

And the fact that there’s other teams interested may boost that asking price, especially with interest from two top flight European clubs, with one offer already on the table.

Angers, upon their promotion to Ligue 1, may want a transfer fee now if they’re to sell Valery, as he’ll surely need replacing.

So that might play down the chances of them accepting this loan-to-buy offer from Liege; if Liege really wanted Valery, they would’ve surely put an offer on the table to buy now.

That could push Montpellier and Sheffield Wednesday slightly ahead in this transfer race and with Wednesday reported to have agreed a deal, they may remain the front-runners.

Though whether or not this £423,000 figure is a potential price tag or an asking price remains to be seen, but it may fall well within the Owls’ budget.

Dejphon Chansiri looks set to spend this summer in a bid to keep Rohl happy, and less than half-a-million pounds on one player may leave money for other potential signings too.
