Report: 'Brilliant' £3m Leeds player is desperate to leave this summer and German side have been in talks

A German club have held talks with one Leeds United player ahead of a possible summer transfer but a move is now dead in the water, despite the star being keen to leave.

While a firesale might be an excessive term to describe the outgoings at Leeds over the next couple of months, Paraag Marathe has confirmed Leeds will sell players in order to raise some much-needed cash.

The 49ers have inherited a big credit card bill from Andrea Radrizzani. While Marathe was on the board during the point in which these signings were made, relegation has seen Leeds a bit strapped financially.

It means players will need to be sold this summer. Crysencio Summerville has plenty of admirers with a potential move to Brighton the latest to be touted, while giants Inter Milan are linked with Willy Gnonto.

Ilia Gruev, Archie Gray and plenty more have been linked with moves this summer. Another is 21-year-old Charlie Cresswell, who has endured a dismal season at Elland Road after returning from a loan at Millwall.

German club hold talks to sign Leeds player Charlie Cresswell

The England U21 star impressed in London and even scored five goals. He signed a new deal with the belief he would be first choice during the 2023-24 campaign for Leeds, but he only played seven times.

Over the weekend, German sides Hannover and Hertha Berlin as well as Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse were all linked with a move for Cresswell who is rated at £3m. Now, German outlet Bild deliver a new update.

They claim the “brilliant” defender is desperate to leave Leeds and second-tier German side Hannover have held talks to sign Cresswell, but that was a long time ago and a move is no longer an option.

Cresswell got the worst Leeds rating in our season review

It has been a woeful season for Cresswell given he will have returned to Elland Road with plenty of optimism last summer. But really, it could not have got much worse for the centre-back in 2023-24.

In LeedsUnited.News’ season ratings, Cresswell earned the worst score with a 1/10. The only way it could have been any worse for the Thorp Arch academy product is if he played any less than his seven outings.

He remains a talent and is easily good enough for most Championship clubs, but a move abroad seems just as likely at this stage. What is key, is that he leaves Leeds in the coming weeks and months.
