Rangers playmaker reportedly wanted in potential return to Premier League club, former Ibrox boss also keen

Rangers have now secured three summer signings and fans will be expecting much more business to come during Philippe Clement’s first summer transfer window.

Rangers completed a third summer signing on Monday evening, announcing the arrival of AC Milan defender Clinton Nsiala.

The young centre back arrives in search of first-team action having been on the Milan bench at times this past season.

Nsiala joins Jefte and Oscar Cortes as Rangers’ summer arrivals, with Nils Koppen striking early business.

Rangers have already allowed a number of players to leave the club this summer and there could yet be more to come as Clement shapes his squad.

Ipswich Town want Rangers’ Tom Lawrence

A number of experienced players have departed Ibrox with their contracts coming to an end.

Rangers may also look to sell players to raise some funds and Tom Lawrence could be primed for the chopping block.

The Welshman joined Rangers on a free transfer from Derby County back in 2022, but managed just nine appearances in an injury-ravaged first season at Ibrox.

Lawrence managed 32 games this past season, playing predominantly as a number 10, but managed only three goals and three assists.

Now 30, Lawrence needs to impact games consistently for Rangers and we just haven’t seen that.

The Daily Mail report that Ipswich Town are now interested in signing Lawrence this summer.

The Tractor Boys have won promotion to the Premier League and Kieran McKenna is looking to bolster his squad without breaking the bank.

Lawrence fits the bill and could make a return to Portman Road this summer.

The Wales international joined Ipswich on loan for the 2016-17 season, racking up 11 goals and 11 assists in a superb campaign.

That was a long time ago now but Lawrence may well fancy a return to Suffolk – an d a chance at regular Premier League football.

Besiktas linked too

Rangers fans are probably sick of hearing about Besiktas and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, just days after the Dutchman’s appointment in Turkey.

Van Bronckhorst has only just taken the job but has already been linked with a number of Rangers players.

Ridvan Yilmaz and James Tavernier have been linked in recent days and the Daily Mail report suggests that Besiktas are keen on Lawrence too.

Rangers would surely be more open to selling Lawrence than Yilmaz or Tavernier this summer and Van Bronckhorst has previously shared his admiration.

Speaking after signing Lawrence for Rangers in 2022, Van Bronckhorst raved about Lawrence’s ability in the final third alongside his leadership qualities.

“If you see him, I saw a lot of games that he played for Derby last year. He was the captain of the team so that means that he has leadership qualities, otherwise Wayne wouldn’t have chosen him to be the captain,” said Van Bronckhorst. “He is a player who can bring goals and assists to the team with his strengths and ability to get his shots on goal and assist other players.”

“He makes his runs behind the defence, be available in between lines. He is a very complete player and is at an age where he has already had years on a level where he has been playing a lot. He played a lot of games last year so it means his physical ability is there and his quality is as well,” he added.

A reunion this summer could be a priority for Van Bronckhorst this summer, but whether Lawrence would pick Besiktas over a Premier League move remains to be seen.
