Ian Wright makes fresh claim about Phil Foden

The 60-year-old is regarded as one of England’s greatest-ever strikers, who was both a lethal finisher and a fantastic all-round forward.

In an interview with British GQ, Ian Wright admitted that Phil Foden is one of the two current English players he would love to play with if he was still playing.

Wright said: “Probably Phil Foden. Phil Foden is flying right now. Plus, I just want to play alongside Jude Bellingham because I love him.”

After Manchester City’s 4-0 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion in April, Ian Wright described Foden as “awesome” and claimed he is “entertaining” to watch — as he had scored a brace at the Amex Stadium.

Unsurprising that Ian Wright wishes to play alongside Phil Foden

It is unsurprising to discover that Ian Wright picked Foden as one of the two current England players to play alongside.

Being a striker, the Premier League winner would naturally gravitate towards playing alongside a top-class creator like the Manchester City midfielder.

The £225,000-a-week man certainly has an eye for a pass, constantly finding the likes of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez in dangerous goalscoring positions.

Foden’s assist for Grealish in City’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace last season is a prime example of his quality of final ball — as he picked out his teammate’s astute run before he took his goal.

Ian Wright was renowned for peeling off defenders and putting himself in threatening goalscoring positions, which a player like Phil Foden could find at will.

The treble-winner will likely be flattered by Wright’s praise, considering he is most certainly an icon in the English game.
