Latest on Manchester United managerial hunt suggests Ineos only have one option with Erik ten Hag - Opinion

Manchester United are yet to make a decision on whether Erik ten Hag remains or to sack him this summer, but there’s really just one choice.

Ineos‘ biggest decision this summer was what to do regarding the manager and as we approach what will be three weeks on from winning the FA Cup, this is yet to be done.

It’s dragged on so long now that it’s becoming ridiculous and it wouldn’t be a shock if Erik ten Hag had enough and departed Manchester United on his own terms – although he likely wants to be a success too much to do this.

Several different replacement options have seemingly been combed over with none stacking up to the lofty expectations and requirements that Ineos have.

But now despite the deliberations ongoing, there’s only one option which Ineos have right now after the latest update.

The latest regarding Ineos and Erik ten Hag

As Ten Hag awaits a decision, there is an increasing possibility that he will be afforded the chance to remain at Old Trafford.

This looks even more likely after the past few days in which the likes of Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettinho have seemingly been rejected.

According to The Telegraph, this is the case and it reports that one thing which is becoming more clear is that there are no outstanding first-choice managers in the event that United opt to sack the Dutchman.

If this is the case, with few knowing what is really going on at Old Trafford, then it seems as though Ineos only really have one option right now and that is to keep Ten Hag as manager.

Ineos only have one choice with Erik ten Hag now at Manchester United

When the club’s 13th FA Cup was lifted, many assumed a decision on Ten Hag was imminent and would’ve been announced within days, but nearly three weeks after, the club missed their chance to change manager.

The options left on the market are either not ticking the boxes for Ineos, or simply not of the required quality tactically, in management or in terms of pedigree which would be the case regarding interest in Thomas Frank.

So the decision at this stage absolutely has to be that United keep Ten Hag in charge, there’s little other choice now especially with no top option, after what will have been at least a month of considering choices.

Much of the fanbase would be happy to see Ten Hag given what would be one final chance to implement his philosophy within a proper footballing structure above him.

After two trophies in two seasons, there isn’t really much argument to the contrary, especially after how much of a mess the club has made of this.
