'Definitely a target': Sky journalist says 'amazing' £40m player linked with Liverpool also wanted by Bayern Munich

Liverpool are likely to be busy in the summer transfer window as they look to bolster their ranks for a better season next time round.

The Reds had to settle for just the Carabao Cup last season after also being firmly in the picture for the Premier League title, the FA Cup and the Europa League.

In addition, Liverpool have a new manager at the helm, and the Reds hierarchy will be eager to give Arne Slot all the tools for the best possible start.

However, the top players will be sought after by many elite clubs. For instance, one defender reportedly wanted by the Reds is now also on Bayern Munich’s radar.

A year ago, Liverpool were strongly linked with a move for Chelsea’s Levi Colwill, and in April, TBR Football revealed that they’re still very keen on the £40million defender.

Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany has now spoken about Bayern’s interest in Colwill, despite links between the Bavarians and fellow defensive target Jonathan Tah.

“Given Jonathan Tah has emerged as a target to join Bayern Munich, a lot of people will be wondering what this means for Levi Colwill given he was linked with a move to the club,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Colwill has a long-term contract at Chelsea but he is still on Bayern’s wish list. He’s not just been there for a few days but weeks. He’s definitely a target.

“He’s a left-footer and they don’t have a left-footer among their centre-backs. Eric Dier, Kim Min-jae, Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt are all right-footers.

“The priority is to sign Tah, but if this deal fails then Colwill is the top alternative. I can’t exclude that Bayern will look to sign Colwill in addition to Tah as De Ligt is available to be sold.”

A new centre-back is a priority for Liverpool, who have let Joel Matip leave on a free transfer this summer.

In addition, Liverpool are reportedly expecting offers for Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate is attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea have plenty of top talents in their ranks and may well have to sell at least one in order to comply with profit and sustainability rules.

With that in mind, Colwill’s future remains uncertain, so let’s see whether Liverpool will firm up their interest in the ‘amazing’ 21-year-old.
