Aston Villa cook Arsenal on social media with a haunting image

Unai Emery didn’t enjoy his time as Arsenal manager, but it’s proving to be a different story at Aston Villa.

During his tenure at Arsenal, they missed out on a top-four finish to rivals Tottenham Hotspur and the Europa League final defeat to Chelsea didn’t help him, either.

But at Aston Villa, he has already bettered his performances in north London because the Midlands club will be playing Champions League football next season for the first time since 1983.

Unai Emery faced his former side twice on his return to the Premier League, after he arrived in November, and was beaten home and away.

Of course, Aston Villa’s 4-2 defeat in February of the previous campaign then led to the team going on a 16-game winning run at Villa Park, which included a 1-0 win over Arsenal last December.

But perhaps Villa’s biggest win of the season was their 2-0 triumph at the Emirates because it had a huge say on the top-four race, as well as the Premier League title.

Arsenal handed the advantage to Manchester City on that day and they then went on to claim the title.

Emery was the only manager to do the double over Arsenal, so you can rightfully say that they cost them the title.

With the season now closed, Villa’s official Twitter account couldn’t help rub salt into the wounds of the Premier League’s runners-up.

They posted an image of Emery instructing his players on the touchline at the Emirates, with the scorecard in the background, which displayed the 2-0 scoreline.

Villa dubbed it ‘Coldest screenshot of 2023/24?’, and you can imagine that the Arsenal fans weren’t best pleased because that’s a haunting image for them.

Aston Villa will be a target next season

Villa secured some huge wins during the recently concluded campaign, including beating Manchester City and Arsenal – the only team to do so.

But that just makes the team a bigger target next season.

You can bet your bottom-dollar teams will now go harder at the players and they better get ready for it because they are no longer going to be underdogs.

Unfortunately for Villa, they didn’t perform well or win enough big games when the pressure was on them and they were expected to do so.
