Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson takes seat at SPFL top table for the coming season

Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson has been appointed to the SPFL board for the coming season and will replace outgoing Rangers chief James Bisgrove.

To clarify, who gets to sit at the top table changes regularly as the Glasgow clubs traditionally alternate the berth on a rotational basis.

He will spend the coming year in post before whoever Rangers appoint to fill their vacant CEO role assumes duties next year, enabling a say in pressing matters on the agenda.

Earlier today, the SPFL’s 42 member clubs elected their seven representatives to serve for the 2024/25 campaign while attending the sporting body’s AGM.

Per the SPFL official website, there will be three representatives from the Scottish Premiership, two from the Championship and two in conjunction with League 1 and League Two.

From the top-tier of Scottish football, Nicholson (Celtic), Malcolm McPherson of Hibernian and James MacDonald from Ross County have been elected.

Airdrieonians chief Paul Hetherington and Graeme Mathie of Ayr United represent the Championship; meanwhile, Alloa Athletic’s Andrew Allan and Clyde chairman Allan Maitland are on board, the latter serving as an alternate director.

Concussion substitutions are set to be an area of focus in the forthcoming season, giving an indication of the duties they will undertake.

Either way, Celtic continue to dominate the landscape in Scottish football. Hopefully, Brendan Rodgers’ men can continue to keep up that trend for time to come.
