Ian Wright names Arsenal icon as 'best' Premier League player ever, wishes he played with him

Ian Wright enjoyed an incredibly successful seven-year spell at Arsenal, in which he won trophies and played alongside some world-class stars.

The England striker was one of Arsenal’s best-ever attackers, and is the second-highest scorer in the history of the club.

Wright played alongside some legends including Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira, who recently praised the Arsenal hero as a unique player amongst greats.

However, one player Wright never got to share the pitch with was Thierry Henry, and he has now revealed his regret that they never got to appear together in what would have been a deadly Arsenal attack.

Ian Wright praises Thierry Henry but admits Arsenal regret

Speaking on British GQ’s YouTube channel, Wright claimed that he would have loved to play alongside Henry, who arrived after he left, and stated that there was no one better than the Arsenal legend.

“Wow, it would have been amazing, because I would have just stayed in the middle with Thierry coming off the left. Thierry, for me is probably the best player that’s ever played in the Premier League. Sorry there it is, I’ve said it,” Wright admitted.

Wright scored an astonishing 179 goals in 279 games for Arsenal, as the team’s top scorer for six seasons in a row, and his final goal saw him overtake Cliff Bastin as the all-time top scorer in the history of the club, dating back to earlier in the 20th century.

Wright had broken a record which lasted nearly 60 years, but Henry would break this within a much shorter spell.

The Frenchman arrived in 1999, and established himself as the best player the club has ever seen. Henry scored 228 goals in 377 games, whilst also recording 97 assists, and he broke Wright’s record in the winter of 2005.
