Arsenal stance on Amadou Onana transfer revealed amid Douglas Luiz race

Catch a round-up of the latest Arsenal news, including updates on Amadou Onana, Douglas Luiz and Granit Xhaka.

Arsenal make Amadou Onana transfer decision

The summer transfer window is just around the corner and Arsenal continue to be linked with some high-profile signings for the midfield.

One of those is Everton and Belgium star Amadou Onana, who has impressed since moving to the Premier League.

With an ability to shore up the midfield with his defensive presence, and at just 22 years old, plenty of top teams have been linked.

However, while Arsenal were claimed to have opened talks over a possible transfer for Onana, the latest update may distance them from that deal.

A report from The Mirror has stated that the Gunners are no longer pursuing a move for the Belgian international this summer.

“One midfielder definitely not joining is Everton’s Amadou Onana who was also linked in January but that caused raised eyebrows back then and is still not on the radar now because he is not the type of midfielder they want,” claimed journalist John Cross.

It remains to be seen whether anyone else will be linked with a midfield move to Arsenal.

Douglas Luiz’s summer transfer stance

Another midfielder rumoured with a switch to the Emirates Stadium is Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz.

The Brazilian has been a key player for the Villains over the past season, helping them earn qualification for next season’s Champions League.

Arsenal have previously been linked with a move for the former Manchester City player but missed out in 2022.

Interest appears to have resurfaced, with the possibility of an exit from Villa Park on the cards this summer.

However, according to TuttoJuve, Luiz prefers a move to Serie A giants Juventus over Arsenal at this stage.

The Bianconeri make their return to the Champions League next season, with a change of management also confirmed.

Granit Xhaka praises Arsenal coach Carlos Cuesta

Former Arsenal star Granit Xhaka has heaped praise on Arsenal coach Carlos Cuesta, who has impressed since joining the coaching staff.

The 28-year-old has gained admirers across football, with plenty of teams linked with a move to make him their head coach.

So far though, he has stayed at London Colney, looking to help progress with the team in their goals.

Speaking on Cuesta’s arrival, Xhaka told The Athletic: “Of course, you are always surprised when someone of that young age comes to a big club like Arsenal.

“My feeling from the first meeting with him was that first of all, as a person, he is very honest, very straight, but he also had great knowledge about football.

“He knows what he’s doing, he knows how to speak with the players, what the players need. It was just amazing from the beginning.”

The Gunners will be hopeful that Cuesta continues moving from strength to strength in his role at the club.
