'More than close': Romano says 'excellent' player reportedly wanted by Spurs is now closing in move to PL rivals

In recent weeks, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a player who has been deemed ‘one of the most promising young footballers of his generation’.

However, it looks as though Spurs are close to missing out on the player to Premier League rivals Aston Villa, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The player in question is Juventus full-back Samuel Iling-Junior, who has been struggling for game time at the Serie A club.

In May, GiveMeSport reported that Tottenham were made fully aware that they could sign the 20-year-old if they tabled a £13million offer.

However, Iling-Junior is now reportedly being offered to Aston Villa as part of a package deal that would see Douglas Luiz head to the Juventus Stadium.

According to Romano, the Villans stand to receive Iling-Junior, Weston McKennie and €20million from Juve in exchange for Luiz.

Juve and Villa are “more than close to final agreement”, while personal terms for all the players involved are currently being discussed, the transfer insider wrote on X.

Aston Villa closing in on Samuel Iling-Junior ahead of Tottenham

Samuel Iling-Junior is a top talent who has already shown he has what it takes in Serie A and, at 20 years of age, he has his whole career ahead of him.

Indeed, the Juve website deemed the Englishman “one of the most promising young footballers of his generation” when they shared a video of his goals just last year.

The video, posted on YouTube embedded on the Juve website, showcases the “skill, speed, and agility that have made him a standout player.”

Likened to Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, Iling-Junior will be a great signing for any Premier League club.

As things stand, Villa – who will compete in the Champions League next term – look set for the “excellent” talent’s services ahead of Tottenham.
