Diogo Jota says £15,000-a-week Liverpool player works harder than anyone else in training

Diogo Jota has named a surprise Liverpool player as the hardest worker at the club right now.

The Reds had a number of successful years under Jurgen Klopp, and that wouldn’t have been possible without putting in the work in training every day.

We’re sure every player at Liverpool has a fantastic work ethic, but who goes that extra step at the AXA Training Centre every day?

Jota has now revealed the answer.

Diogo Jota makes surprise claim about Liverpool’s Curtis Jones

A few names spring to mind when you think of the hardest-working players at Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah is certainly one of them – Cody Gakpo revealed that the Egyptian is the first to training every single day.

Virgil van Dijk is a hard worker too and is someone who leads by example.

Wataru Endo‘s industry on the pitch shows he possesses an incredible work ethic as well, and we imagine Luis Diaz is no different in training either.

However, the hardest-working player at Liverpool, according to Jota, is someone you would never guess.

The Portuguese attacker took part in a video with Goal, where he answered a number of questions about his teammates.

Jota went as far as saying Alexis Mac Allister is the best player in the Premier League right now.

Then, the former Wolves man was asked to name the hardest trainer at Liverpool. He replied without any hesitation: “Curtis Jones!”

That definitely surprised us.

What Klopp and his coaches privately thought about Jones

Liverpool’s Jones is a manager’s dream.

The £15,000-a-week (Spotrac) player works tirelessly every game. He can play in multiple positions too and is one of those that never causes problems.

That’s probably why Klopp really liked him, and the German and his coaching staff privately believed Jones had an incredibly ‘high ceiling’.

“That’s the way with Klopp and his staff with Curtis Jones, they’re always demanding more because they know that he has such a high ceiling and they want to see it week-in, week-out,” journalist James Pearce said in December 2023.

“And Klopp speaks about how much of a difference it makes when Jones does things at pace rather than taking touches and slowing things down.”

Liverpool insiders who have seen Jones train reportedly believe he is ‘eager and open to be taught‘. He is also regarded as one of the ‘most diligent and committed when it comes to gym work, pre-activation and recovery’.
