Move over ‘Doberman boyfriends’, ‘rodent’ men are all women really want

The internet has spoken and the rise of the rodent boyfriend has dethroned dog-themed partners like the Doberman boyfriend.

In March, Gen Z told us that Golden Retriever boyfriends were out, and Doberman boyfriends were in. If you’re confused like countless others who struggle to understand Gen Z’s slang, you should know that the internet is currently attributing personality traits to various dog breeds and animals.

What is a rodent boyfriend?

Much like the “So Babygirl” trend from back in February, Gen Z has a habit of giving relationship jargon a much-needed update. One example is the rise of dog-themed boyfriends, with each breed bearing specific characteristics that make them the perfect partner.

Your Doberman boyfriends are the strong and silent type, while the German Shepherd partner is sweet, attentive, and always alert. The comparisons go on forever, with each singleton usually having a preference when it comes to their own dating life.

Though dog-themed partners have reigned supreme for a few months now, it seems there’s a new animal on the block coming for your girl. Introducing, the rodent boyfriend, which seems to be more about looks than personality traits.

While the term itself seems like an insult compared to Golden Retriever boyfriends, who are said to seek a specific kind of relationship, some of the hottest celebrities are rodents.

Rising star Barry Keoghan has been designated as a sexy rodent man alongside Challengers star Mike Faist, Timothée Chalamet, Jeremy Allen White, and Josh O’Connor.

The rat ranks keep growing

Despite being a relatively new term, rodent boyfriends are quickly overtaking other relationship trends like the controversial Soft Guy Era.

Beneath a clip from Screenshot (@screenshothq) that delved into the rodent boyfriend trend, social media users put forward more suggestions for honorary rats and mice. Other top suggestions included Matt Healy, Colin Morgan, Adam Driver, and Colin Farrell.

One person wrote: “Not only does this make complete sense but I can’t even disagree that these rodent men are hot.”

“THERE IS NO WAY YOU JUST PUT TIMOTHEE CHALAMET ON THIS LIST HE IS NOT A RODENT,” someone else screamed, while a third added, “This is totally uncalled for but hilarious at the same time.”
