Less than three months after signing with the Carolina Panthers, Jadeveon Clowney is feeling at home with his new team. A team who he’d like to see his former South Carolina Gamecock and South Pointe High School teammate Stephon Gilmore sign with as well.

“That’s my guy. I talk to him still all of the time,” Clowney said on Tuesday. “He wants me to move out here. He still (lives) out here in Waxhaw (NC). I’m like, bro, I’m not moving up there but we can hangout. Just come on over and sign with the Panthers and be here with me.”

The soon-to-be 34-year-old Gilmore remains a free agent after finishing his 12th year in the NFL last season with the Dallas Cowboys. While there’s only been some talk, publicly, on Gilmore’s end about his what he’s looking for, Clowney shed some light in a playful manner.

“It always comes down to money or somethings for my guy,” Clowney said with a big smile. “I stay out of it and (I) let him do his thing. I just hope and pray that he ends up here with me but it’s fun, man. Just talking with him and picking his brain. He’s got options and when you have options it’s even funner. I’m just ready to see where he ends up.”

Teammates at South Pointe High school in 2008, the duo linked up again in 2011 at South Carolina. While both former Gamecocks have been in the NFL for over a decade, they’ve never been teammates in the NFL. Like Gilmore, Clowney was also a first round draft pick. Heading into his 11th year in the NFL, the Panthers mark the sixth different team that the former first-overall pick of the 2014 draft will have played for.
