Report: What Liverpool are about to tell Bayern Munich as they eye shock move for Joe Gomez

New Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is eyeing a surprise move to sign Joe Gomez from Liverpool this summer.

The Reds defender had a fine campaign in the 2023/24 season. His brilliant performances have even earned him a call-up to the England squad for the Euros.

Now, Gomez could become a wanted man – Bayern Munich want him. Liverpool, however, have already decided what they are going to do if they receive an offer.

Liverpool’s plan if Bayern Munich make move to sign Joe Gomez

The Mirror have revealed that Bayern Munich boss Kompany wants to bring Gomez to Germany this summer.

The England defender started the 2023/24 campaign as a backup, but he ended up playing a huge part for the Reds throughout the campaign.

Gomez played across the backline for Liverpool and was brilliant. Jurgen Klopp even branded him as a ‘life saver’ after how well he did in key players’ absences.

Those performances seem to have caught Kompany’s eye, who was in England at the time as the manager of now-relegated Burnley.

The report claims that the Belgian really likes Gomez’s versatility, which is why he is eyeing a shock move to sign him this summer.

Liverpool, however, have already made up their mind.

The report claims that the Reds will issue a ‘firm hands-off warning’ to Bayern if they come calling. Liverpool are going to directly tell the German giants that ‘they do not want to lose one of their most-valued players’ this summer.

That would put an end to all the speculation.

Why Joe Gomez will be key for Arne Slot

Gomez is definitely not the first name that comes to mind when you think of Liverpool defenders.

The Englishman was once a regular starter for the Reds alongside Virgil van Dijk, but Klopp preferred the likes of Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and even Jarell Quansah in the heart of the defence.

However, Gomez still remained a valuable player for the Reds, especially in the 2023/24 season, when he filled in brilliantly at left-back on multiple occasions.

That versatility could be key for Arne Slot in his debut season at Liverpool. Gomez will give the new Reds boss numerous options at the back, and that is a dream for any manager to have.

It will be interesting to see where Slot will use Gomez next season.
