DIG, SSP escape unhurt in militant attack In Kathua

Srinagar:

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua had a narrow escape when a militant opened fire on their vehicles during an ongoing anti-militant operation in Hiranagar, according to an official.

The official informed GNS that the attack occurred when a hidden militant fired over two dozen rounds at the convoy of the two police officers. “None of the officers or personnel were injured,” the official stated.

In a related development, security forces recovered arms and ammunition near the gunfight site.

The recovered items included three magazines with 30 rounds each, an additional magazine with 24 rounds, 75 rounds in a separate polythene bag, three live grenades, 1 lakh in currency (200 notes of 500 rupees), eatables (Pakistani-made chocolates, dry channa, and stale chapatis), Pakistani-made medicines and injections (painkillers), one syringe, two packs of A4 batteries, and one handset wrapped in tape with an antenna and two wires hanging from it.

Meanwhile, following a militant attack on a joint camp of security forces in the Chattergala area of Bhaderwah, authorities have suspended traffic on the Bhaderwah-Pathankot Highway until further notice.
