Holte End footage now shows the moment Douglas Luiz may have said goodbye to Aston Villa

A re-emerging video of Douglas Luiz at the end of last season suggests that he knew his Aston Villa fate ahead of the summer.

Aston Villa have already got to work in the summer transfer window, as Douglas Luiz’s exit looks to be the first deal on the cards.

The Brazilian’s time at Villa Park is almost up as Juventus close in, with Samuel Iling-Junior, Weston McKennie and additional cash being received in the transaction.

Signed for just £15m from Manchester City in 2019, Luiz’s time at Villa was hugely successful, with there now hints emerging that he was perhaps aware of his fate this summer.

Holte End footage shows the moment Douglas Luiz could have bid farewell to Aston Villa

After Villa’s final home game of the 2023/24 campaign, Luiz was videoed by the club’s media team as he was serenaded by the Holte End.

The Brazilian stood in front of the supporters for some time, who were in full voice celebrating the midfielder, hinting at what could have been a goodbye.

The footage showed Luiz waving to the fans, hailing their support and possibly signing off from Villa Park after his side’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool.

Of course, being the final game of the season, the 26-year-old’s actions could have been a customary goodbye for the campaign but given the state of play now, some may view it as a farewell.

It’s been just over three weeks since the Premier League calendar concluded and already, Luiz looks to have packed his bags on his way to Turin, making his moment with the Holte End all the more suspicious.

A plan may have been clear for Luiz and Villa

Given how quickly the rumoured deal has gathered pace, there is reason to believe that there was an understanding between the player and club regarding his future.

Of course, the entirety of his and Villa’s transfer stance stems from the club’s PSR concerns, with it understood that Monchi and Emery are in a sell-to-buy scenario.

It’s an extraordinary development so early into the summer, as Luiz readies himself for the upcoming Copa America with Brazil.

With two players plush cash intended to come Villa’s way, Monchi seems to have negotiated a fair deal between the Italian side and the Villans, in what could be interpreted as a pre-planned transfer.

Many will be sad to see Luiz go, given that he’s been an admirable servant to the club and has improved significantly over the years.

The Brazilian’s moment with the Holte End may have been his final farewell, an exchange of respect and a high-note to depart on.
