Aston Villa learn transfer stance of target Giovani Lo Celso

Last week, Aston Villa were linked to Giovani Lo Celso, who was named as a possible target among others by The Sun.

The Argentine was coached by Emery at Villarreal and has Premier League experience to his name, making him a strong figure for the Villans to eye.

On top of Emery’s admiration for the player, Villa could now be handed a boost in their pursuit of signing Lo Celso as an update on his future has emerged.

Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Tottenham’s plan is to ‘part ways’ with the 28-year-old who has one year remaining on his current contract.

Emery and Monchi could now make a cost-effective swoop for the midfielder, who will be on the move this summer.

Lo Celso could give several Villa players competition

Depth in a squad is crucial when competing at the top, not just for rotational purpose but for competition also.

It’s integral that players are kept on their toes with healthy challenges for starting places within the side, something that the introduction of Lo Celso could implement at Villa Park.

The Argentine, who was once lauded as ‘phenomenal’ by Jose Mourinho, via Spurs’ official app, is best deployed in central midfield to showcase his playmaking strengths.

At Villa, the players who could be most affected by the creator’s possible arrival include John McGinn and Youri Tielemans.

While McGinn’s place in the Villa squad is untouchable, the Belgian could be inspired by competing with Lo Celso for starting spots, with the duo having a similar skill set and approach to play, as seen above.

The pair’s numbers suggest their similarities, and reinforce why the Villa boss is said to be eyeing a move for the Argentine this summer.

Both players take great pride in their distribution and ability to move play upfield through the central channels, something that Emery has found great joy with Tielemans at achieving.

Having guided Lo Celso previously in his career, the manager could be eyeing a reunion with the highly-rated 28-year-old, who will be eager to salvage his Premier League career.
