Gers eye ex-Real Madrid and Bayern starlet at Euros amid option to buy claim

Rangers are going about their transfer business in a quietly effective manner with Nils Koppen working his way through a lengthy shopping list.

Three players have already been announced and reports suggest that Yusuf Kabadayi, Damian Garcia and Albion Rrahmani could be next.

Speculation has linked James Tavernier and Connor Goldson to Saudi Arabia with Sky Sports Austria suggesting that there could be a replacement lined up already.

Rangers linked with Austrian international Flavius Daniliuc

Flavius Daniliuc is currently a Salernitana player but has just finished the season with RB Salzburg.

Capable of playing in the middle of defence or at right-back, the Austria international is currently in Germany for the European Championships.

Florian Plettenberg is the Sky Sports reporter who has revealed Rangers interest, even if on X, it was Celtic rather than Rangers that he claimed were chasing the 23-year old’s signature.

On Sky Sports Austria’s website and on their Transfer Update show, it was the Ibrox outfit who are named.

Koppen is casting his web further afield than his predecessors looking at a profile of player who can contribute immediately as well as make a profit for the club further down the line.

A task that is easier said than done.

Speaking towards the end of the season, Philippe Clement was fully aware of the size of the task facing him and his recruitment director:

“We know we have less money than our competition because they have more money and they have Champions League money now. So, we need to be more inventive, the recruitment needs to be more inventive.

“If your opponent has more money and can spend more you have to work better. That needs to be the challenge to make things better. We have to find better players for cheaper prices.

“It’s not always the player that costs more who at the end has the highest value.”

Daniliuc interest could signal Connor Goldson exit

Flavilus Daniliuc is different to some of the players who have been mentioned so far.

He is now an established international and is fresh off a season in Serie A and the Austrian Bundesliga.

Not only this, but his development was spent at both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Salzburg have an option to buy Daniliuc which puts them first in the queue.

He also wouldn’t come cheap given his reputation and potential.

Experience doesn’t always have to mean old though.

Look at Jude Bellingham at 20-years old, the teams he’s played for, the leagues that he has played in and the medals in his cabinet.

Not every signing will be a player approaching the end of their contract or a 20-year old with huge potential.

With John Souttar one of only a few home-grown senior players, he won’t be leaving in the summer and Leon Balogun has just signed a new deal.

Connor Goldson is the one currently being linked with a transfer, if Rangers sign a player like Daniliuc, his days could be numbered.
