'What we want'...Agent drops Rangers transfer desire with seven-figure price tag

Rangers are making forays into new transfer markets with Nils Koppen delving deep into South America.

Oscar Cortes arrived from Colombia via France, Jefte from Brazil via Cyprus and they haven’t been the only ones mentioned with Damian Garcia and Thomas Galdames also linked.

Mexicans haven’t got a great recent history with Rangers, but Philippe Clement might already have had discussions about a midfielder looking to make the leap to Europe.

Rangers name-dropped as agent touts Andres Montano

Andres Montano is a 22-year old midfielder currently playing for Mazatlan in his homeland and harbours lofty ambitions of a move to the Premier League.

The £1m rated playmaker’s agent is looking to find him a move to the Scottish Premiership with Rangers one of two clubs he is targeting.

No surprise who the other is.

Rafa Guillen has backed his man to make the step up, but isn’t getting carried away:

“We think that Andres could easily play without problems for Celtic, or for Rangers, because of our relationship with them, but they are not the only ones. Celtic and Rangers have a lot of quality.

“The English Premier League is the number one league in the world and we already have Edson Alvarez and Raul Jimenez as Mexicans there.

“But to get to that league, you have to move elsewhere in Europe first like Greece, Portugal or Scotland. And being able to play with Celtic or Rangers for a year makes it the perfect pathway to go to the Premier League.

“The Scottish League would be the best bridge for him it has a lower level that would allow Andres to play more often.

“It wouldn’t help him or us to take the player to a league where he plays intermittently – what we want is for him to play and in Scotland, Andres can play plenty.

“If we cannot find a club in Scotland, we would look at the Eredivisie in the Netherlands instead.”

Montana might have to wait for Rangers to make move

Andres Montana is a traditional number eight who is also capable of playing further forward or on the right-hand side.

Rangers are well stocked for this type of player at the moment and you would expect players like Kieran Dowell and Tom Lawrence to be moved on before anymore are signed.

Capped by Mexico already and with a burgeoning reputation, Montana appears to have a bright future ahead of himself and it is good to see his representatives taking a more cautious approach to his career progression.

He fits the profile of player that Rangers are looking for this summer, whether or not his agent gets his wish, we’ll need to wait and see.
