'Bit worried': Anthony Gordon admits he was really concerned after what happened to £250k-a-week Man City star

Anthony Gordon has revealed that he was “a bit worried” after what happened with one Manchester City player in England’s 1-0 loss to Iceland.

Kyle Walker, Phil Foden and John Stones all started in the Three Lions’ shock defeat to Åge Hareide’s side.

History repeated itself from Euro 2016, with Iceland springing a surprise on England, with Jón Dagur Þorsteinsson scoring the winner in the 12 minute.

Stones did not cover himself in glory for the goal, letting Iceland’s star striker cut in and pick his spot.

Anthony Gordon makes “worried” claim about John Stones

Aaron Ramsdale perhaps could have done better for the strike, considering he was beaten at his near post.

Gordon has disclosed that he was concerned about whether Stones had suffered an injury when went down with a knock against Iceland.

As quoted by The Mirror, Gordon said: “As I said after the match, I was a bit worried when he went down because he’s such a big player for us but he’s fine. He’s got an elite mentality, so I’ve had faith in him.”

The Athletic reported that the £250,000-a-week man participated in full training ahead of The Three Lions’ Euro 2024 opener against Serbia.

John Stones’ fitness is a worry heading into Euro 2024

While Gordon would have been relieved to see Stones get back to his feet and continue, it was concerning to see him not return to the pitch at half-time.

In his last three starts for club and country, the Manchester City defender has been taken off at half-time twice; against Iceland and Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final.

The six-time Premier League winner does not look at his sharpest as well, making uncharacteristic mistakes at the back in all these outings.

Stones is arguably England’s most important player at Euro 2024.

With his experienced centre-back partner, Harry Maguire being ruled out of the tournament, the 30-year-old is the only defender at Gareth Southgate’s disposal with tournament experience.

Southgate would be hoping that in the days in training leading up to the tournament, Stones is fit and firing.
