Nominations open for the Newark and Sherwood Community and Sports Awards 2024

The Newark and Sherwood Community and Sports Awards return this year to recognise individuals who support the community and the growth of sports.

Organised by Newark and Sherwood District Council in partnership with Radio Newar, the awards are set to take place on Friday, September 20 at The Renaissance at Kelham Hall.

This is the second year that the awards have included Sherwood and the District Council has worked closely with Active4Today to incorporate more sport categories.

Last year, twelve worthy winners were awarded for their work in the community and sports with 300 guests in attendance.

Suzanne Shead, director of Housing Health and Wellbeing at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “Our district is full of amazing individuals who do great things in our communities. Whether it be helping neighbours in an emergency, working as backroom staff for a sports club or inspiring others to contribute to the area, there’s so much to celebrate.

“Often these individuals do not get the recognition they deserve so this award ceremony is the perfect opportunity to say thank you to those that deserve it the most.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what nominations come in and excited to celebrate the amazing accomplishments of our residents across the district.”

Nominations for the awards are open from Monday (June 10) until Saturday (July 6) for a total of 13 categories.

Alex Hopkin, meetings and events sales manager at The Renaissance at Kelham Hall, said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting the Community and Sports Awards once again and we’re excited to hear about all the amazing stories from our community.

“The Renaissance at Kelham Hall is the perfect venue to celebrate the districts greatest accomplishments and this year, we’re also sponsoring the Courage and Bravery Award.

“We’re looking for those people who do something exceptional and exemplary when it comes to showing great heroics in difficult times.”

Active4Today will also be gold sponsors and this year they are sponsoring the Creating Change for Sport and Physical Activity Award.

“At Active4Today we support a wide range of sporting clubs to get much needed funding and to improve the facilities in the area to provide more opportunities for people to be active.

“We’re a proud sporting district and these awards celebrate some of the great sporting accomplishments from the past year.”
