A former bus driver is taking his Post Office business to the next level by adding an off-licence.

Santhosh Mandala always dreamed of owning his own business, but it wasn’t until he quit his job as a Nottingham City Transport bus driver that the dream came true.

Together with his wife, he decided to open a business and became the owner of Balderton Post Office on Main Street, Balderton in 2020.

With a busy role of ensuring the Post Office meets its operational goals and serves the community, Santhosh gave into public demand to open an off-licence.

The off-licence part of the Post Office includes a range of products from snacks, beverages, groceries and household items to ready-to-eat meals and coffee.

The business owner said: “Running a Post Office and off-license can be quite rewarding as it combines providing essential services with a potential steady income.

“The Post Office aspect offers community engagement and a steady flow of customers while the off-licence allows far more flexible and possibly extra footfall for convenience items.

“Balancing these two different types of business can be challenging but also fulfilling as it meets both everyday needs and the speciality demands of the local population.”

The shops it open Monday to Friday from 6.30am to 9pm, Saturday from 8am to 9pm and Sunday from 9am to 5pm.

Santhosh added: “All my customers are overwhelmed by the way we did a refurb of the Post Office inside and shop front with a modern fresh look

“I think Balderton village is already pleased and happy about the changes.”
