‘I’m very close’: Kieran Tierney admits there is someone at Celtic who is still ‘important’ to him

The Kieran Tierney chat to Celtic is just not going to go away as the Arsenal defender now looks on his way out of the North London club.

We discussed this morning how Tierney said he didn’t regret leaving Celtic back in 2019 and how he addressed what type of player he would be if he made the return to Paradise.

With a £10m transfer fee seemingly enough to take the Scotland defender away from Arsenal, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Celtic could make a deal happen.

The Celtic fans have varying opinions on whether a return to Paradise would be a good thing for the club but it seems that if he did make the switch, there is one person at Parkhead Tierney would be delighted to see again.

Tierney shares why he’s ‘very close’ to John Kennedy

Tierney made 170 appearances for Celtic before making his £25m move to Arsenal. And whilst it is almost five years since he left for London, the Scottish international still shares a close bond with assistant boss, John Kennedy.

Tierney said [The Athletic], “The first person to play me centre-back was Brendan Rodgers in a back four (for Celtic) against Kilmarnock in 2017.

“He made me captain that night (the youngest in Celtic’s history at just 20) and I scored and assisted.

“When I was playing centre-back, I’d always speak to John Kennedy. He was the guy I went to with questions about positioning. He’s someone I’m very close to and still keep in contact with.

“He’s been important in my career and he’s someone I’ll always have no matter where I am.”

Kennedy has been a pivotal part of the Celtic backroom during what has been the most successful time at the club since the Lisbon Lions era.

The fact that he is still held in high regard by Tierney after all this time shows how important his role is at the club.

Could Kennedy use the relationship he has with the Arsenal man to convince him of a return to Celtic? Who knows. We can but hope.
